BEA RITA (MAYHEW) KREIGER - A 1960 AHS graudate, Passed away in September of 2017.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on November 6, 2017 at St Mary's Church, 520 Viers Mill Rd, Rockville, MD.


GEORGE EMORY FISHER - A 1959 AHS graduate, passed away on 10-26-17 at his home in Hoodsport, WA. He served in the Army National Guard, graduated from Ben Franklin University. He married Eileen Nader on 9-7-63. George worked for the FBI for 30 years. Upon retiring, he formed his own security consulting business. He was associated with former FBI Agents, Kiwanis, County Fire District, Shelton United Methodist Church, Lake Cushman Booster Club, Mason County Genealogical Society, F.A.A.M. and Shrinersm in D.C. He is survived by his wife Eileen, son Steve, daughter Julie Cannon, brother Richard, step-sister Linda Dunn grandsons Devin Morasch and Reilly Cannon.

TINDARO AGATINO SMIROLDO - A 1959 AHS graduate passed on September 27, 2017. He served in the US Army and had a distinguished career with the U.S. Government. He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, brother Onofrio and several grandchildren.

JOHN CARL SHEA, Jr. -  Age 72 of Waldorf, MD passed away peacefully on Monday July 1, 2013 at the Univ. of MD Hospital Cntr.  He was born and raised in Washington, D.C., the son of John C. Shea and Mildred (Davis) Shea. He graduated from Anacostia High School in 1959. He served 7 years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, 3dBn, 1st ITR NCB, Camp Lejune, NC. He retired to Waldorf, MD after 38 years with Wash. Gas Light Co. He was a member of the Greater Waldorf Jaycees, Elk Lodge #2421, and Quarter Century Club at Wash. Gas Light Co. He enjoyed his retirement with his family at home, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC and continuing to work, most recently as a security officer at College of Southern MD. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Myra (Rawlings) Shea, nine children, and countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

JUDITH (WRIGHT) DIEHL Age 72, a 1959 AHS graduate, passed away June 28th 2013 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and friends after a 2 year battle with cancer. Judy loved life, her children, grandchildren all of her pets and staying at Monroe Bay.

RONALD E. "RONNIE"  DROZE - Age 74, a 1957 AHS graduate, passed away on Friday September 13, 2013. He was born in Washington, D.C. December 5 1938 to Haywood and Alma Faye (Penninger) Droze. Ronnie was a sales representative for Kraft foods in Ft. Lauderdale, FL before moving to Venice, FL in 1968. He was a greeter at Wal-Mart in south Venice. He is survived by his sons Matt of Citrus Heights, CA and  Ronald of Seattle, WA; a brother Daniel of Washington, D.C., several nieces and nephews and his loving companion, Sharon Propp, of Venice. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry.

RONALD ALFRED BROWN A 1972  AHS graduate, Ronald was born in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 1953. He worked at The Library of Congress from 1987 until his death. He attended First Rock Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Ministry, sang with the Male Chorus and King's Voices of Glory and for years served as the Chairman of the Trustee Board.

He was known as the "Gentle Giant", loved by many, and will be truly missed. He loved his faith, family and friends and enjoyed doing for others. He loved cooking on the grill and fishing. 

He is survived by his mother, Mildred Brown, sister Patricia Stingley, brother Thomas Peeler, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 great nieces, 1 great nephew and a dear and loving friend Twana Stanley.

​CAROL ANN (BALL) GRIGSBY - A 1963 AHS Graduate, Carol was born March 21 1945 in Washington, D.C. She married Wayne in 1962 and celebrated 51 years of marriage.  They had 3 children. She was a legal secretary at Myers, Billingsley & Shipley until she retired in 2000.  Carol always put her family first and took great pride in spending as much time as possible with them. She enjoyed going to the beach, dancing and bowling.She was a member of the Allentown Boys and Girls Club, Friendly H.S. Booster Club, D.C. Hand Dancers and the Lunch Bunch. She is survived by husband Wayne, three children, sister Betty Laycock, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

MARTIN "DAVID" HENDERSON -  Passed on 3-28-14 at age 74 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Dave played basketball at AHS and was captain of the Western Maryland College basketball team. He served as an officer in the Army for 2 years and completed law school at George Washington in 1967. He was a member of The Organized Crime Strike Force. He was tapped to become Chief Counsel for the Secret Service. In 1978 he joined a private law firm. In 1993 he was the founding president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund. He was also active in Habitat for Humanity and The Special Olympics. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Carol Dianne (Briggs) Martin, 2 children Jennifer and Charles, 2 brothers W. Kieth and Wayne, a sister Kathy Gullick and 2 grandchildren Ruby and Marion.

PETE SORIANO - AHS class of 1960 passed away on May 10, 2015. He leaves his wife Elaine, daughter Stephanie and son Steven as well as 3 stepchildren and several grandchildren.

WILLIAM EDWARD ABERNETHY - AHS class of 1959, passed on June 16, 2015. He is survived by his wife Nancy L., children Melonie, Kimberly, Jeffery, Samantha and Jason, sister Jeanne Hobbs, and 10 grandchildren.

WILLIAM EMORY "BILL" SEGANISH - AHS teacher, departed this life on Monday March 9, 2015. Beloved husband of Elizabeth A. Seganish, his one true love, married for 54 years. Father of William, Mary Ann, Julie and the late Karen. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He retired from D.C. Public Schools as a Vice Principal and was an avid golfer. During WW ll he was in the Army Air Corps and flew missions in the Pacific as a bombardier. His last 6 months of active duty was in the occupation of Japan. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on October 27, 2015 at 1 PM.

JAMES N. TALBERT - 1960 AHS grad, born Feb. 22, 1943, passed away on November 6, 2015 in Brookings, SD. He worked on Capital Hill for many years and was an avid baseball fan.

MARTHA SOTHORON DONOVAN - Passed away on November 16, 2015. Born 3-21-74 in Washington, D.C. along with her twin sister Margaret. She graduated from AHS and worked briefly at The Navy Yard where she met her future husband, Bill Donovan. They were married in 1970 and spent a year in England visiting France, Austria and Greece.

They returned to The States and settled in White Plains, MD where she completed her BS degree at U of MD. She developed her artistic skills and was involved in community activities and the choir at St. Joseph's Church in Pomfret, MD. She was a Special Ed teacher, worked in Real Estate and was a graphics editor in the private sector and later, the government. Son Michael was born in 1974.  

In 1998 Bill and Martie moved to Reno, NV where her sister worked in the VA Medical Center. Martie also worked there until her retirement and they became immersed in the Reno culture. 
She is survived by her husband Bill, twin sister Beezie Bradhurst, sister Ellen Morovick, her son Michael, grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life is planned for the near future.

LANCE A. KLEIN -1959 AHS grad, passed on February 25, 2016. He is survived by his wife Janice, son Christopher, daughter Jessica and 3 grandchildren. Lance worked as a Systems Analyst for the Commonwealth of PA.

LOUIS DICK, Jr - 1959 AHS grad, passed on March 9, 2016. A retired Maryland State Trooper, "Lou"  was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was "addicted" to steamed crabs, coffee, sweet tea, cigarettes, crosswords and his secret stash of sweets he ate while watching his favorite team, The Redskins. In retirement he became a waterman. Steamed crabs every night! He said "this is the life".He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anne B. Dick; children Jenifer, Michelle, Larry and  stepson Ralph; numerous grandchildren and step grandchildren.

DIXIE (ABSHER) COOK - A 1960 AHS grad, passed away on July 27th 2016. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lee Cook; son John; daughter Amy; 5 grandchildren; six sisters and one brother.  Dixie graduated from the University of MD in 1964 and was a longtime member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a retired Fairfax County school teacher.

JOHN E. WALKER - A 1959 AHS graduate, passed away on July 16, 2016 in Naples, FL. His wife, Patricia (Patti) passed away shortly before John on June 28th, 2016. He attended Randle Highlands Elementary, Sousa Jr High and AHS. He worked in D.C. all his life first at Merkel Press, then the Washington Star and finally at The Washington Post. He retired in 2006 and moved to Naples, FL a few years after. He had a passion for his family and friends, woodworking, genealogy, stamp collecting, history and hanging out with his friends at Homer Helter's in Naples. 

Survivors include his children Ellen, Marsha, Matthew, Heather, Micheal and Andrea; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

JAMES F. FARMER - A 1958 AHS graduate, Jim was very active in sports in the D.C. area in the 60's. He received his B.A. in Law in 1976 and his J.D. in 1979. He had a very successful law practice in Southern MD for many years. In addition he was very active in Wildlife Conservation efforts locally and nationally.

Survivors include Helen, his wife of 38 years, daughter Melissa, son James, brother Edward and 2 grandchildren.

ROBERT EUGENE "BOB" LITZ  - Bob was born in June 25, 1936 in Washington, D.C. to the late Francis and Mildred Litz. He married Charlene S. Litz of Solomons, MD. Bob attended AHS from 1951 to 1953. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1954.

WILLIAM D. "BILLY" GREENE - A 1959 AHS graduate, passed away June 5, 2017 as the result of a stroke.  Billy was President of the Crescent Cities JC's, President of the MD JC's and V.P of the national JC's. He was president of Allied Metal Industries and worked in management for Prince Georges Public Schools.

CRAIG A. EVERETT, Ph.D. - A 1960 AHS graduate, passed away on July 18, 2017. He practiced in Tuscon, AZ as a Family and Marriage  therapist. His contribution to his profession will be a lasting legacy.

CONSTANCE "CONNIE" (ALVEY) FITZSIMMONS - A 1959 AHS graduate, passed away on September 17, 2017. She was a resident of Myersville, MD

JAMES MICHAEL KELLY - A 1949 AHS grad, passed away on June 29, 2018. Jim served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hornet during the Korean war. He loved classic cars and street rods and his favorite was a 1953 Mercury. He is survived by 2 sons and his adoring wife Trella.

GARY HOLMBERG -  A 1960 AHS graduate, passed away on March 29th, 2020 as one of the first victims of the Caronavirus outbreak at Pleasant View Nursing Home in  Mt. Airy, MD.  He was recuperating from a fall, and he was also suffering from dementia.   For more than 20 years Gary was a D.C. firefighter and EMS. He retired as Captain in 1988.  Gary was known by everyone as a great person. He loved to help people.
